The Art of Delftware – Exclusive Masterclass
by Wilma Plaisier, master painter and designer of Delft blue with over 25 years of experience. She worked for Royal Delft, Heinen Delftsblauw and colaborated with well known designer Marcel Wanders.

Experience an inspiring day where you'll learn to apply the centuries-old Delftware painting techniques yourself. Under the guidance of master painter Wilma Plaisier, you'll work step by step: from sketch to your own artwork on porcelain, handmade by Studio Ineke van der Werff.

You'll gain access to expertise, techniques, and recipes normally hidden behind studio doors. By the end of the day, you'll have created a personalised, hand-painted plate or vase – a unique work of art that will later be professionally fired.

Program

From 09:30h – Doors open with coffee and tea.
10:00h – Start masterclass

• Introduction by Master Painter Wilma Plaisier
  Discover the story behind Delftware and her own practice as an artist and craftswoman.
• Materials & Techniques
  Wilma will introduce you to the world of porcelain, biscuit, brushes, and paint. You'll not only learn how to use these, but also gain access to her expertise and recipes, including tips on where to purchase your own materials. 
• Step-by-step, you'll learn to practice and apply all the basic techniques, both theoretically and practically, using traditional Delftware as a starting point. This includes: designing, patterning, arranging, profiling, sketching, and creating stencils/ponsives. You'll practice using different types of brushes and the various painting techniques associated with them.
• Practice on bisqueware
  First, you'll work on a test piece to familiarise yourself with the materials and experiment with different brush techniques.
• Design
  We'll discuss how to apply a sketch to your final piece (plate or vase), after which you'll begin developing your own design.

12:00h – 13:00h – Lunch break

• Continue painting the final piece
  In the afternoon, you'll have plenty of time to work on your unique plate or vase, with personal guidance. Ask questions, delve into techniques, and be inspired.

16:30h - 17:00h – Finishing touches

• We'll review the results together. The final pieces will be left behind and professionally glazed and fired by Ineke van der Werff. As soon as your work is finished, you'll be notified and can pick it up or have it shipped. This way, you'll go home with new knowledge, inspiration, and a beautiful handmade work of art.
