Porcelain course - mould making

Learn how to make a mould and slipcast with porcelain clay. Design your own vase, mug or ceramic sculpure and create a small collection. Suitable for both hobby potters and professional designers.

During this 8 week course you will create your own design, from idea to finished product. In the first 4 lesson we will mostly work with plaster, making your model (master) and the casting mould. For sculpting the model we will use different hand tools like rasps, files, chisels and mirettes. In lesson 5-7 we will be slipcasting with porcelain casting slip. You can work with both white and coloured slip and learn different techniques for decorating. In the final class we will finish all products with glaze, by dipping, spraying or painting. After the final class everything will be professinially fired in our kilns. Once fired, your porcelain items are ready for use and even dishwasher proof!

You will make one design and mould of which you can make multiple "copies" in porcelain. The dimensions or your design cannot be bigger than 15x15x20cm, or have a maximum content of 4,5 liter. Due to limited time and space. The complexity of your design will determine if it will be a simple or a multi-part mould. Everything you need to know will be explained and demonstrated during the course. No prior experience with ceramics or mould making is needed.
